In the fast-paced, high-flying world of elite netball, few rising talents have captured fans’ imaginations quite like Uneeq Palavi. Known for her powerful circle presence, sharp shooting accuracy, and dynamic energy, Palavi has quickly carved out a reputation as one of the most exciting goal shooters in international netball.

From Grassroots to the Big Stage

Born in Melbourne, Australia, to a Samoan mother and Tongan father, Palavi’s netball journey began at the grassroots level with the Werribee Central Football Netball Club. Standing at 185 cm, she naturally gravitated toward the key shooting positions of Goal Shooter (GS) and Goal Attack (GA).

Her undeniable talent soon saw her rise through the Victorian pathway systems, playing for powerhouse state-league outfits like the Victorian Fury and City West Falcons. Working hard behind the scenes as a “goaler waiting in the wings”, Palavi honed her craft, developing the physical strength and mental resilience needed to mix it with the world’s best defenders.

Making Waves on the International Stage

While her domestic career was blossoming, Palavi made a profound impact on the international scene representing the Tonga national netball team (the Tongan Tala).

Her breakout moment arrived at the 2023 Netball World Cup. On the sport’s biggest global stage, Palavi proved unstoppable under the post. She finished the tournament as Tonga’s top scorer and ranked as the fourth-highest goal scorer overall, turning heads across the global netball community with her composure, clutch shooting, and inspirational leadership.

Suncorp Super Netball and Global Expansion

Palavi’s domestic breakthrough in Australia’s elite Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) competition proved her elite pedigree. After initially earning recognition as a temporary replacement player, she showcased her capability at the highest level—notably featuring for the Melbourne Mavericks and earning praise as a true fan favorite due to her high-energy play and long-range Super Shot proficiency.

Always eager to challenge herself and grow as an athlete, Palavi’s career has continued to expand internationally, including a high-profile stint taking her talents overseas to compete in the Netball Superleague with the London Mavericks.
